Software

Software refers to software or software equipment of a digital computer, and includes all necessary software components to enable specific tasks, as opposed to the physical components of the system, called hardware.

These software components include, among others, applications like word processor, which allows the user to perform all tasks related to text editing, system software, such as an operating system, which basically allows other programs function properly, facilitating interaction with the physical components and other applications, also provides a user interface.

While this distinction is somewhat arbitrary, and sometimes confusing, for all practical purposes the software can be classified into three types:

System Software: The objective is to decouple the user properly and the programmer from the details of the particular computer used, isolating processing specially referred to the internal characteristics: memory, disks, communications ports and devices, printers, displays , keyboards, etc. The system software it tries to appropriate user and developer of high-level interfaces, tools and support utilities that allow maintenance. Programming Software: The set of tools that allow the programmer to develop computer programs using different alternatives and programming languages, in a practical way. Includes among others: Text editors, compilers, interpreters, linkers, debuggers
