Pentagon sponsors DNA factories

The Pentagon, through the Microsystems Technology Office (MTO) and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) launched an open call to participate in the program Living Foundries (Castings something like life). The aim is to bring biology to engineering, in particular, to build a platform for biological systems to a manufacturable technology, both as chips question. The Pentagon wants to sponsor great ideas:

Bringing biological production engineering space where the only limit is the creativity of the designer. Living Foundries attempts to enable on-demand production of new materials and high quality and features and capabilities for the Department of Defense.

U.S.. UU. want to enter fully into the realm of biological manufacturing, bioengineering, biometariales, bio-something-based-on-genes and living beings, and thereby take the next step towards further was unimaginable materials and devices.

Just yesterday in the post of Ghost in the Shell reflected on the DNA matter how real biological source and we as the receptacle that serves as a storage disk and processor executing that instruction. (Indeed, I would say we have computer equipment in each cell, in short a supercomputer processing tasks in parallel.) The point is that, as the Pentagon with biological code modules as basic building blocks bioapps the imagination is the limit.

So we are biological machines to see precise functions defined, perhaps gathered in libraries and software frameworks for building applications. Even systems that manage bioperativos biological processes for the optimal use of resources. Self-managed systems are repaired itself, learn from their mistakes and evolve.

Of course, it still fights the free vs. Biosoftware. The proprietary, patent and intellectual property. Perhaps they created new living things that belong to the state and other free distribution, social, reproducible by enthusiasts.

All this just around the corner.
