The Spanish Congress asks to remove the digital canon

The house of parliament urged the government to an order to repeal the rule thatimposes a tax on electronic media and devices

The digital canon implemented in Spain suffered a setback following the approval of a request for annulment of the standard driven by the Chamber of Deputies. With 331votes in favor and 2 abstentions, Congress urged the government to repeal the tax on devices and electronic storage and playback of content.
"Compensation for copy is worn and inefficient in terms of compensation for creators," said José María Lasalle, a spokesman for the Popular Party, quoted by Spanish daily El Pais.
In October, the Court of Justice of the European Union considered that the digitalcanon in Spain is a rule that imposes excessive compensation and should be appliedonly to end consumers of media and electronic devices for private use, excludingprofessionals or companies.
For its part, the Socialist Party spokesman Jose Andres Torres Mora justified thesupport request, but said he does not seek to suppress the digital canon, but other standards should be developed according to the ruling that established the Court ofJustice of the EU .
